History of the Dunkirk Church of the Nazarene
The Dunkirk Nazarene Church started in 1922 with a tent meeting. After the tent meeting closed the church was organized. There were 9 members at that time. Church was held in an old creamery building at the corner of Center and Broad streets. The building had 5 rooms added and used for the parsonage. After a period of time the building was renovated and a basement with a coal furnace was installed. A parsonage was purchased on Commerce St. to allow for expansion of the church. The first pastor was Loren Pendry.

There were approximately 14 charter members in the first year: Mr. and Mrs. James Stephenson, Mrs. L. Neiswander, Mrs. Thomas, Mr. and Mrs. Noah Shirley, Mrs. Kaufman, Edna Wise, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Vore, Mrs. George Capbell, Mrs. Isabell McCombs, Mrs. Martha Giles and Mrs. Edward Tigue.

In 1975 Rev. Burl Taylor undertook the total remodeling of the church with new carpeting, paneling and air conditioning was installed.

In 1977 Rev. Steve Dawson helped in the addition of an annex to the church. The annex had 4 classrooms upstairs, a kitchen and large recreation and meeting room downstairs.

In 1995-1996 Rev. John Abshear undertook the renovation and addition of the present church.

In 1999 Rev. Dave Boots started a van service to pick up the neighborhood children and bring them to church.
